Meeting with Chinese President Hu Jintao & Visit to Tianjin Eco-City/会见胡锦涛主席与走访天津生态城
Had a good meeting with President Hu Jintao today. We reviewed how our cooperation had progressed, and why the economic troubles in the West make it more important for Asian countries to work together.
Also visited the Tianjin Eco-city (TEC), a highlight of our bilateral cooperation. A green city is rising from what used to be a barren wasteland of marshes and salt evaporation pans. The Eco-city is earning a reputation as a model for sustainable urban development. It’s off to a good start, though it’s still early days yet. – LHL
我在星期二上午会见了胡锦涛主席，针对多个课题作了有意义的交流。我们讨论了两国合作计划的进展，也谈亚洲国家之间应该如何加紧合作，以缓解西方国家的经济困境所带来的冲击。
我也到天津生态城参观。这是新中两国现有的一个重要的合作项目。天津原本的一片盐碱荒滩、废弃盐田已经蜕变成一座绿化的新城，并且开始在国际上引起注意，被视为可持续性发展计划的一个模范。这个计划有了好的开始，但是我们还需要继续努力，才能达致目标。
